Best Tools to Manage Black Hair

We all know that Black Hair is unique. It’s beautiful, it’s versatile, its Kinky, Curly, Wavy! With that said, not all tools i.e. some combs and brushes are sustainable for Black Hair. So here is my list of the best and effective tools for your African mane.

Wide Tooth Comb:
This is the only tool that I comb my natural mane with! It doesn’t tangle or get stuck in my hair, and it detangles with no problem. I truly believe that all African textured hair should be combed with a wide tooth comb when detangling hair. This comb will not damage your hair and in return retain length and promote black hair growth.

Rat-Tail Comb:
If you are trying to part your hair with precise and perfection, than this comb is your best friend! Excellent for those straight parts, even on the little ones when they won’t sit still, a rat-tail comb will get the job done. Don’t use it to detangle your hair with it though, that’s what the Wide Tooth Comb is for.

Soft Bristle Brush:
Now I don’t usually brush my hair, but when I do, I ALWAYS use a Soft Bristle Brush! And so should you! African American hair is fragile enough, and to use a hard nylon brush you’re just asking for your hair to break off. A Soft Bristle Brush helps distribute the natural oils and added oils in black hair without breaking it off.

Plastic Hair Cap:
Talk about an excellent agent for a deep conditioning! This little plastic cap works wonders in helping your deep conditioning treatment wont to the max. If you are home and don’t have time to sit under the dryer for your weekly deep condition treatment, the plastic cap is the greatest tool to use in order to get the same effects of the hooded dryer while running around the house.

Hair Clips, and Hair Sticks:
Instead of using a damaging Ol’ rubber band to tie your hair up, Hair clips are the business. They keep your hair in tack without damaging it. There wide combs are excellent for grasping the hair and holding it in place. And if you need to wrap your hair or even pin curl it, the hair pins are excellent for that without damaging your hair.

Elastic Hair bands:
Unlike rubber bands, elastic hair bands have a protective layer which is more protective of your hair. They get the job done when it comes to ponytails and in my opinion always hold the hair in place.

Satin-Silk/Cotton Hair Scarf:
There is no doubt that a Satin/Silk hair scarf holds it down when it comes to retaining moisture in your hair. So if you have dry hair, by all means, go for it, I know I Do. But sometimes we may have a hair style that has excess oils in your hair, in that case you get the go to use a Cotton Scarf, your hair is already WELL moisturized so there is no need to dry to retain it. Know your hair and use which scarf is best for you according to your hair do.

Shears/Scissors
I know a lot of black women dread cutting their split ends and or trimming their ends, but trust me when I say that this is crucial if you have damaged ends. If you want to promote growth, you must trim your split ends! Otherwise, you will end up with results that could be more damaging in the end, such as hair breakage. Remember, never trim your ends on a slant, always trim the hair straight across! Otherwise you are just exposing more of your hair cuticle in which you don’t want to do if you want to stop split ends.
