Does You’re Hair Have The Ability To Absorb Moisture?

Photobucket

Porosity. Hair porosity refers to the hairs ability to absorb moisture. As many women of color know, in order for our hair to remain moisturized, not dry in most cases it needs to have some type of moisturized product in it daily. But what if you hair has no porosity? What if your hair doesn’t have the ability to absorb moisture? Black hair especially needs moisture to maintain its health. So how do you know how porous your hair strands are? Take this quick test to find out.

The Quick Test:

Separate a small section of your hair at the front, and then back-comb the strands as your do when teasing your hair. Notice how your hair bunches up. If the hair bunches immediately, it is very porous or damaged; but if the hair bunches up a little or not at all, it is healthy or less porous.

So how do you know the difference?
As a rule of thumb , fine strands to be be more porous, while coarse hair is usually not. The more porous your hair, the fastest it absorbs chemicals. Note: A person with fine hair as myself who puts a relaxer in her hair, tends to take much faster than a person with course hair. But also on the flip side, my hair or others like it can be more sub stable to damage, while thicker course hair could take longer to process the chemicals, their hair also can less sub-stable to damage.

The bottom line?
You have to know your hair! Every body’s hair is different so only you are the best teacher to tell we your hair is damaged, not damaged, more porous or less porous.
