Black Women, Shampoo Your Hair!

I have to say this to my sista’s. There seems to be a misconception that women of color are not supposed to wash their hair everyday or it will break off. I even know some black women who don’t wash their hair for months and have the nerve to say “My hair is itching because it’s growing.” Hell to the NO! Your hair is itching because it’s DIRTY!  Black women, we must wash our hair if we want it to grow. The truth of the matter is that a healthy head begins with a Healthy Scalp as Head and Shoulders would put it. But that is the TRUTH. So with that said, you must at least follow these guidelines in order to get your hair to grow, point blank:

 Shampoo your hair

1. Exercise!
Not only does exercise relieves stress, but it also adds longevity to your life. Not only does it add longevity to your life, but it also will keep you and your hair looking good. And who doesn’t want that?

2. Proper Nutrition
please answer me this, How in the hell do you expect your hair to be long, luxurious, and healthy
if your body doesn’t have the proper nutrition it needs to function? With all the fake and processed foods out here, WE MUST take a multi-vitamin in order to fill that void of poor nutrition. A better alternative would be just to learn how to eat right. I mean don’t go cold Turkey, But at least take baby steps until the mission is accomplished.

3. Shampoo your Darn Hair!
Yes, you must shampoo your hair more than once a month! I recommend that you shampoo it every day. Trust me; your hair will not fall out ladies. I remember when I cut my hair off to the nitty gritty, and it grew like wild fire because I shampooed my hair every day. Your scalp needs to be cleansed ladies, so please stop worrying about your weave getting messed up and take care of your natural hair so you won’t have to keep buying weave. If you can’t shampoo your hair every day, shampoo it every 3 days. But if you work out every day or so, YOU MUST SHAMPOO YOUR HAIR AFTER YOUR WORKOUT! Please don’t do that to yourselves by keeping that sweat and grime all in your hair.

4. Deep Condition
This doesn’t mean just adding conditioner in your hair after a shampoo. This means sit under a dryer with the conditioner and a plastic cap for at least 15-30 minutes. And if you don’t have a hood dryer and don’t have a stylist, use Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise with a plastic cap and leave it in your hair for at least an hour. This does wonders ladies. You can purchase the product at: www.blackhairandskincare.net or your local beauty supply store or here.
Our hair must be conditioned. This is a very important step to hair growth and care for women of color. So please make sure you do it.

So ladies, following these steps, and I guarantee that you will grow your hair. Also, so that your hair doesn’t dry out or depending on your hair type, make sure you use an natural or organic shampoo and conditioner with no sulfate which can dry your hair out.  I like Burt Bee’s.  They have a natural selection and you just can’t go wrong with that brand.

You are so on point!!!! People will tell me that my hair does not need to be washed because it looks good, nice, etc. because I have been able to maintain my hairstyle. However, it does not matter to me if my hair looks good if my scalp is not clean!!!! I wash my hair and scalp at least twice a week in the colder months, and at least every other day in the warmer months because I HATE a dirty scalp. I visit the salon for relaxer application, cut/trim, and color.

Unfortunately, some women believe that hair is supposed to be washed “every two weeks” because that is usually when they have money or receive a paycheck. I also believe some women do not wash their hair as often as they should because they have allowed a stylist (or someone else) tell them it is unhealthy to do so in an attempt to keep women from washing their hair between salon visits.
